Things to do on Oak Island

While we all come to the beach to enjoy the fresh salty air and the warm sun on our backs, there are quite a few attractions around Oak Island, NC. Whether you are a fisher or an explorer--or anything in between, take a look at our attractions guide around Oak Island, North Carolina.

Oak Island Lighthouse

Marvel at its wonder. Completed in 1958 at a total cost of $110,000.00. The lights are 169 feet above the water. The Oak Island Lighthouse is located in the Town of Caswell Beach near the mouth of the Cape Fear River. It sits next to the Oak Island Coast Guard Station on the east end of Oak Island looking south out at the Atlantic Ocean. Featuring four 2.5 million candlepower aerobeacon lenses which produce four, one-second bursts of light every 10 seconds, it has a luminous range.

Jungle Golf

Enjoy a fun outing on the putt-putt course at Jungle Golf. With good and not too easy greens and paths between holes making the experience more memorable, this is the perfect family activity. There are several large jungle animals positioned throughout which made for lots of fun photo opportunities. An arcade and ice cream shop is also attached

Oak Island Fishing Pier

Also known as the Yaupon Beach Fishing Pier, this iconic part of Oak Island was built in 1955 and withstood an innumerable amount of storms and hurricanes. Currently sitting at 908 feet long and 27 feet above sea level, it is currently the highest pier in North Carolina. A fisherman's paradise, this pier is legendary in the amount of king mackarel caught each year. it's also an excellent Trout and Flounder Pier. Fishing starts around the first of April with large Bluefish followed by Spanish, Trout and Flounder. King Mackerel start to show up when the the water gets to 64 degrees. Other species caught are Cobia, Whiting (Virginia Mullet), Pompano, Spots, Sharks, Tarpon, Amberjack, Jack Crevalle, Sheepshead, Black Drum, Red Drum, Croaker, Grey Trout, Ladyfish, Spadefish, and Pinfish. The North Carolina State Record for Tiger Shark came off this Pier in 1966 by Walter Maxwell, it weighed 1150 lbs. Attached to the Oak Island Fishing Pier is the lovely Koko Cabana restaurant.

Oak Island Farmers Market

Located in Middleton Park (SE 46th St), the Oak Island Farmers Market is a seasonal market offering local fresh produce, crafts and unique offerings. Traditionally held on Mondays (subject to change) and beginning at 8AM, the market is host to over a dozen vendors throughout the summer.

Oak Island Golf Club

The Oak Island Golf Club is located in Caswell Beach NC on the south side of Oak Island looking out at the Atlantic Ocean. This 18 hole course is one of the few golf courses along the barrier island and features a relaxing and picturesque backdrop as you enjoy a fun day on the course.
