Here is our guide to enjoying the Jolly Roger Pier!

About the Jolly Roger Pier

The Jolly Roger Pier on Topsail Island extends a whopping 850 feet into the Atlantic Ocean. Built by Lewis Orr in 1954, It is an area landmark that has been around for many generations. Not only is it an excellent spot for fishing, but it’s also a great place for a leisurely stroll.

Visitors can take in the sea life, including birds, fish, dolphins, and sea turtles that bob in the waves. The pier is also great for viewing sunrises and full moons as they rise from the ocean. At night, it’s fully lit and a popular destination for evening walks. Not only is it a great place to relax, but it’s also an iconic part of the Topsail Island tradition.

Because of the similarity in name, many travelers doing research online confuse the Jolly Pier with the Jolly Roger Amusement Park at the Ocean City Boardwalk in Maryland. While the Maryland pier certainly looks entertaining, it’s important to keep in mind that the Jolly Roger Pier on Topsail Island is a much more laid-back and peaceful fishing pier and not an amusement park.
